SA: Road rage offenders should lose cars, licences - Kerin

ADELAIDE, Aug 20 AAP - Serial road rage offenders should have their cars confiscatedand lose their licences, South Australian Opposition Leader Rob Kerin said today.

Mr Kerin said the severity of penalties needed to be increased to send the messageto the community that road rage was unacceptable.

"Those people who revert to violence should face the full weight of the law," said Mr Kerin.

"They need to be sent a clear message that society will not tolerate such behaviour.

"The possible confiscation of a repeat offender's motor vehicle along with the lossof licence will make people think twice before getting hot-headed and doing somethingstupid on our roads.

"I'm sure that the first car to be confiscated from a road rage offender will senda clear message - road rage will not be tolerated."

Mr Kerin's comments followed a road rage incident in Adelaide on Sunday when a manwas taken to hospital in a critical condition after being stabbed in the heart by anothermotorist.

The stabbing occurred after a dispute understood to have been caused by one drivercutting in front of the other at an intersection at Elizabeth, in Adelaide's north.

Mr Kerin said he understood city driving could be frustrating, but violence was not a solution.
